about Boycott The Hype

Each and every day we are bombarded with "News". If the news was just news, it wouldn't be so bad! The problem is that rather than just stating the facts, our news services are now telling us why they think the events occurred and what we should think about it. Unfortunately, whilst we might be smarter than this, one can't help but let some of this negativity in.

As a business owner, I recently heard a radio news story about a new round of unemployment figures. Had the segment simply announced the figure, I would have taken note and continued on as usual. Unfortunately the story took the small upward movement as the basis to suggest dire consequences and by the end of the report I was beginning to reconsider decisions about growing my business.

So what is the answer? Ultimately there needs to be a better balance in news and one way to achieve this, is to vote with our feet. When enough people have agreed to boycott the negative spin news services, TV networks and other news sources that rely on ratings, listeners and visitors will be forced to provide us an alternative.
